Kyrgyzstan celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the CRC ratification by Kyrgyzstan
Bishkek, 19 November 2019 – A series of events will take place this week to mark the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC@30), and the 25th anniversary of the ratification of the Convention by Kyrgyzstan. The main events will happen on November 20, for World Children´s Day.
The week will start with “Kids Take Overs”, in which children from all over Kyrgyzstan will take over the position of high-level representatives from the Government, national and international organizations, including the Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Altynay Omurbekova and several ambassadors (see the comprehensive list below).
On November 20, children will meet Members of the Parliament at the Parliament and a dialogue around children’s rights will be held with children asking questions to parliamentarians. In the afternoon, a Gala Concert will take place at the Kyrgyz Academic Opera and Ballet Theater “Abdylas Maldybaev”. Hundreds of children will attend a programme comprising music and dance performances, the reading of articles of the Convention, and short speeches in which children will express their views on their rights.
In addition, iconic buildings of Kyrgyzstan will go blue at night on November 20 to mark World Children´s Day, including Ala Too Square in Bishkek, Burana Tower in Tokmok, and Sulaiman-Too in Osh.
The programme of events started on November 13, with the inauguration of a special exhibition dedicated to child rights at the National Museum of Fine Arts that will run till December 1st.
In connection with the programme of events for the 30th anniversary of the CRC, UNICEF is supporting, under the auspices of the President of Kyrgyzstan, the Tumar Campaign, aimed to end violence against children in Kyrgyzstan.
