PRISTINA, 15th of June 2022 – Today, UNICEF Kosovo is releasing “Foleja”, the first parenting application available in Albanian and Serbian languages, designed by international experts to support parents and other caregivers of children from 0 to 6 years old. The launch will start at 16:15, in Zahir Pajaziti square.

The “Foleja” app, available for free, will provide expert advice on a large range of child health and development issues, from nutrition and breastfeeding to early learning and the value of play, responsive parenting, protection, and safety. Besides thousands of articles and expert advice available at any time, from anywhere, the app offers interactive features such as an immunization tracker, key developmental milestones tracker, games for parents to play with their children, and other features. It also includes specific guidance for parents and caregivers on how to care for their own well-being.

Foleja, which is available in Albanian and Serbian, allows parents to track key development milestones, and record their child’s growth, vaccinations, and health check-ups.

“The first years of life are critical for the development of children; how they are cared for in this period will have a fundamental impact on their lives as adults. With this new app, we want to offer all parents some extra support as they begin the important, and demanding, journey of parenting,” said Nona Zicherman, Head of Office for UNICEF in Kosovo. “This kind of tool is particularly important when direct contact with service providers is not possible or made more difficult, including in the context of the current pandemic.”

” I encourage all parents to download this free, easy-to-use app, and give their children a good start, for a lifetime.”

UNICEF Kosovo continues to work closely with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation and other Kosovo institutions to bolster the capacities of parents and families with young children, including through new parenting support programmes aimed at reaching caregivers of the most vulnerable children, with support of European Union as part of package for Western Balkans in response to COVID-19, and the Government of Luxembourg.
