Prishtina, 30th September 2020 – Today, UNICEF Office in Kosovo signed an Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the engagement and partnership with Raiffeisen Bank Kosova, with the purpose of enhancing cooperation on promoting socially important issues such as basic human rights, children care and also advancing its cooperation on creating a better and sustainable environment on issues deriving from COVID 19 pandemic.
As a result of this strategic partnership, 151 tablets and 275 schoolbags were donated to children in Prizren - the second biggest municipality - with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science and local authorities and the support of the Raiffeisen fund, H. Stepic CEE Charity.
The pandemic with COVID 19 is not only a health crisis, it is also a crisis for children that have been vulnerable especially during this time. A learning challenges already existed before COVID-19 hit. We are now looking at an even more divisive and deepening education challenge. Access to the technology and materials needed to continue learning is of utmost importance. Official data has shown that over 10 thousand children were not able to follow online classes during the lockdown in Kosovo because of poor economic condition and lack of assistive technology. Providing a range of learning tools and accelerating access to digital tools and internet for every child is critical.
The partnership between UNICEF and RBKO presents a unique opportunity to leverage the skills, resources and capacities of new generations and support a more inclusive and sustainable development. Prioritizing investment in children and adolescents now will equip them with the full range of skills required to become active members of the society and adapt to the changing nature of labor markets. UNICEF and RBKO partnership will not only increase opportunities for children and young people but will also bring greater social inclusion, as well as economic benefits.
UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child, in everything we do. Together with our partners, we work in 190 countries and territories to translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, to the benefit of all children, everywhere.
