Survival: Staying Schooled in Rural Jamaica

Improving secondary attendance, retention and re-integration

Staying Schooled in Rural Jamaica encouraged schools to identify the reasons behind their students’ absenteeism and to design, implement and monitor interventions to address the challenges. The participating schools showed creativity and practicality in their solutions, which included increased investments in school gardens, apiaries and chicken rearing to provide additional school meals, as well as literacy, numeracy and parenting support and transportation stipends.
