Baghdad – 09 January 2024 - UNICEF expresses its sincere condolences and extends its sympathy to the families of the children victims of the fire that broke out in the Women's and Children's Hospital in Diwaniyah on Monday.

We are deeply saddened by the number of victims, along with the number of children affected by smoke inhalation.

In these difficult circumstances, UNICEF conveys its respect to the families and friends of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

UNICEF will continue its support to the health sector in Iraq and calls for all parties to ensure safety in health facilities, especially for the most vulnerable children.
