During a mission to Kermanshah on 6th September 2022, UNICEF Iran Representative, Dr. Robin Nandy visited the Adolescent and Youth Empowerment Centre (AYEC) for boys as part of a joint programme of the Ministry of Sports and Youth(MoSY) and UNICEF.
The Centre helps young boys aged 15 to 24 years, particularly the most vulnerable, to make a smooth transition from school to productive work through improved access to learning and developing a breadth of skills and opening opportunities to help them prepare for life, work, and their contribution to the nation and economy.
AYEC (TORANJ) is a pilot programme initiated one year ago, designed on the principles of ‘Learning-to-earning’ and the UNICEF UPSHIFT concept, seeking to empower the most vulnerable adolescents and youth with the required skills and resources, including dealing with the secondary impacts of COVID-19 in their communities to become a positive force for contributing to a competitive labor force and sustained economic growth. There are two other AYECs for adolescent girls, one in Alborz and one in Isfahan province.
