On 02 December 2019, Ms. Mandeep O'Brien, UNICEF Iran Representative and Dr. Mahmoud Abbasi, Deputy for Human Rights and International Affairs of the Ministry of Justice and Secretary of the National Body on the Convention on the Rights of the Child (NBCRC), signed a workplan for cooperation to promote child well-being in the country.
The NBCRC has been established under the Ministry of Justice with a special mandate to monitor and coordinate implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in Iran. Implementation of the provisions of the CRC in simple term means giving all children equal opportunities for growth, development, and well-being.
2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the CRC. The Islamic Republic of Iran ratified the CRC in 1994.
UNICEF looks forward to a strong partnership with NBCRC for contributing to children’s well-being in Iran.
