More adolescents and youth in Iran will benefit from opportunities to find suitable jobs as a result of the UNICEF and the Ministry of Sports and Youth (MoSY) partnership. The two organisations reviewed lessons learnt from running two Adolescent and Youth Empowerment Centres (AYEC) in Kermanshah and Isfahan in a bid to scale up the pilot programme to national level.

In a four-day consultative workshop held in Kermanshah from May 29 to June 1, fifteen youth NGOs from fifteen provinces, together with a number of adolescent and youth representatives, reviewed lessons learned from the pilot implementation of UNICEF-supported AYECs and explored opportunities for replicating the centres in their respective provinces.

The two AYECs were launched as pilot by the MoSY-affiliated youth NGOs with UNICEF support in Kermanshah and Isfahan in 2021. They aimed to help the most disadvantaged adolescents and youth by providing them access to technical and vocational training and innovative skills-building programmes while linking up the youth with entrepreneurship programmes in the private sector to help them have a smooth transition from learning to earning. The two AYECs have benefited 1395 young people with their services since their establishment in 2021.
