UNICEF and Ministry of Culture to boost cooperation on children cultural development

On Wednesday 24 Aug. 2022, UNICEF Iran Representative, Dr. Robin Nandy, met with Advisor to the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance (MoCIG) and Head of Ministerial Office, Dr. Mahmoud Shaloei to discuss the current plan of action as well as future collaborations.

During the meeting, Dr. Nandy appreciated the achievements of the current cooperation between UNICEF and the different departments affiliated to the MoCIG in safeguarding the dignity of children and adolescents in media and cyberspace, and reiterated that UNICEF as an international children’s agency with global presence, respects the culture, values and traditions of each country.

For his part, Dr. Shaloei called for enhanced UNICEF support in areas such as children’s publications, cinema and theatre, visual arts, music, and specially promotion of book reading amongst children and adolescents to increase the per capita reading rate in Iran. He expressed MOCIG’s readiness to benefit from UNICEF’s experiences in other countries.

UNICEF Iran signed a partnership with the MoCIG in 2018 which continues to date. Under this partnership, both sides have implemented several activities with several MoCIG affiliated entities, including Farabi Cinema Foundation, Iranian youth Cinema Society, Department of Press and Information Sharing, Center for the Development of Culture and Art in Cyberspace as well as Research and Cultural Planning Department.
