As part of a collaboration between UNICEF, the Drug Control Headquarters (DCHQ) and the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, as well as medical science universities, a series of “Behavioural Risk Reduction Counselling (BRRC)” Workshops were conducted aimed at reducing the risk of drug use among university students, an initiative that was the first of its kind at the national scale.

More than 600 experts and counsellors of university Counselling and Lifestyle Centres across the country participated in 18 workshops during January and February 2023 in Tehran and eleven provincial capitals. The workshops aimed to enhance the capacity of experts and counsellors in universities and empower them to provide drug use risk reduction counselling to students.

The trained university counsellors, under the supervision of master trainers, will provide necessary support and services to the university students who are at risk of initiation and continuation of recreational substance use as part of a comprehensive drug prevention programme.
