Seoul, August 13, 2010 – With great sadness, Korean Committee for UNICEF has lost its goodwill ambassador, Andre Kim, on the evening of August 12. He was 75.

He was hospitalized at Seoul National University Hospital since last month for the treatment of colorectal cancer and pneumonia.

Renowned for his unique and creative fashion style, he was the first male fashion designer in Korea and was also awarded cultural medals from foreign countries including France and Italy. Kim designed the Korean athletes' uniforms for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.

Since 2001, Mr. Kim has participated in numerous UNICEF programs and used his talent to support needy children around the world. However tight his schedule was, he never missed UNICEF events and gave inspiring speeches to garner help and support. Not only did he hold numerous charity fashion shows but also donated thousands of beautiful dresses introduced in his show to a charity bazaar. He made a great contribution in advocating and raising funds for children.

Ms. Dong-Eun Park, Executive Director of the Korean Committee for UNICEF, said, “Andre Kim was a global-minded person with a warm heart. We will never forget his smile when he bowed to the audience at the finale of his show. He has been the one who brought many young celebrities gather around KCU. His devotion and passion to make every child live a better life will continue to remain in our hearts.”

UNICEF cherishes the memory of Andre Kim, a great man with great talent, who loved children more than anything else.
