Challenges
Data and evidence about children’s situation are critical to the improvement of their lives – and indispensable to realising the rights of every child.
Gulf states have made steady progress to improve data availability and quality. However, there is need to build on this progress and produce high-quality statistics to monitor, measure and evaluate national development plans and to report on progress towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Solutions
Working with government counterparts, UNICEF supports the strengthening of data systems and related mechanisms for collection, analyses and use of data to support policies, plans and budgets for children.
The data collected at the national and subnational level directly supports the monitoring of national development plans and Sustainable Development Goal monitoring and reporting.
The limited availability of data impedes advocacy efforts and opportunities for leveraging additional resources.
As part of the programme, UNICEF is forging closer partnerships with research, academic and policy institutions to build additional capacity on strengthening data for children.
