The renowned Gambian musician and long term children’s advocate, Jaliba Kuyateh, officially became UNICEF’s appointed National Ambassador in 2006. As the first Gambian UN National Ambassador, Mr. Kuyateh has over the years joined other UNICEF ambassadors from around the world, also from the world of arts, sciences, literature, entertainment, sport and other fields of public life, to contribute to UNICEF’s efforts to raise awareness on the aims, objectives and priorities of the organization and convey messages about its activities to the public. He has used his talent and fame to raise funds and awareness as well as advocate for children’s right to health, education, and protection and equity in access to these services.

From his first profession as a teacher, to his current one as a musician, Mr. Kuyateh’s strong commitment to children’s wellbeing has been consistent.
