Education
Educating children and helping them fulfill their greatest potential is possible.
Our goal for every child in The Gambia 2024-2028
UNICEF Gambia aims, with the support of our partners, to ensure transformational education for children and adolescents across The Gambia over the next 5 years. We want to ensure that every child has access to quality education and 21st century digital skills that will equip them for life-long learning and the world of work.
We will focus on ensuring children who are currently out of school are supported to access quality education, including children with disabilities and the most vulnerable. We will support the training and capacity building of teachers to improve the quality of teaching, and to ensure the provision of foundational literacy and numeracy, while fostering safe, protective, and inclusive learning environments for every child, this includes ensuring quality early years education.
By 2028, we aim to see a 5% national increase in Grade 5 English attainment and an above 7% increase in Grade 5 Mathematics and to ensure that at least 80% of children are enrolled in Grade 1 pre-primary education.
