Has deinstitutionalization improved the situation of children in Bulgaria?
The global estimate of the number of children in residential care is approximately 2.7 million children between the ages of 0-17 years, or 120 children per 100,000. The region with the highest rate of children in residential care is Europe & Central Asia which has 666 children per 100,000, a rate that is over five times higher than the global average.
