EvalMENA Conference and General Assembly - Towards an Evaluation Agenda for the Middle East and North Africa Region
In May, the Regional Evaluation Association for the Middle East and North Africa EvalMENA convened its 5th Conference and General Assembly in Tunis, Tunisia. With the support from UNICEF, the annual event – under this year’s motto ‘Towards an Evaluation Agenda for the MENA region’ – has been established as key platform for training, exchange and network development. The success of the event and momentum created for further strengthening national and the regional evaluation systems was displayed in the broad attendance to the meeting. Participants included evaluators and representatives from civil society, governments and UN agencies across the region and beyond. In addition to the attendance of parliamentarians from multiple countries in the region, a session was held in the Tunisian Parliament to advocate for the value of evaluation and its integration into policy processes. Discussion panels focused on the role of evaluation for the global SDG agenda and regional experiences, challenges and opportunities for strengthening evaluation systems. The latter was also supported through a three-day training on impact evaluation, provided by 3ie (International Initiative for Impact Evaluation) for association members.
