Adolescent-led food urbanism in Ethiopia
Innovative strategies to empower and support adolescents and young people reach their full potential
Highlights
Empowering adolescents and youth in Ethiopia to reimagine urban food systems, the Adolescent-led Food Urbanism initiative is a first-of-its-kind model that links skill development and income generation, climate-smart agriculture, and multisectoral interventions to create healthier, more inclusive communities. Through sports and youth centers, the programme promotes sustainable food production, which is led by the adolescents and youth themselves with the motto “from us to us.”
The objective of the programme is to strengthen the well-being, agency, and livelihoods of adolescents and youth, particularly in hard-to-reach and food-insecure urban areas, by equipping them with skills, resources, and opportunities to produce and consume nutritious foods, access inclusive services, and lead local food system transformation.
