UNICEF supported the Eswatini Government in producing a report titled “Strengthening Nutrition Supplies Planning, Financing, Budget Processes, and Procurement in Eswatini: Challenges, Recommendations, and Capacity Development”, to address bottlenecks in the Planning, forecasting, budgeting, financing, procurement, and distribution management of nutrition commodities in the health sector in the country. The report consists of five sections: an executive summary, introduction, approach and methodology, process mapping findings, and capacity development response planning and implementation. The identified bottlenecks include inadequate coordination and communication among stakeholders, insufficient funding, limited capacity and skills, and inadequate data management systems. It offers recommendations for addressing these challenges, including the need for improved stakeholder engagement, increased funding, enhanced capacity building, and the development of robust data management systems. The report concludes that addressing these challenges will be critical to improving the planning, financing, budget processes, and procurement of nutrition supplies in Eswatini.
