The percentage of fully immunized children under one year gradually increased from 50 percent (1999) to over 90 per cent (2011). Eritrea is currently polio free and Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) has been eliminated. UNICEF’s support to the Government of Eritrea has been in the expansion of the immunisation programme through procurement of traditional vaccines, facilitation of new vaccines as well as operational funding of outreach services and training of staff.
