NEW YORK, 18 January 2005 – Princess Alexandra, patron of the Danish National Committee for UNICEF, visited UNICEF’s New York headquarters this week, to meet with Executive Director Carol Bellamy and other UNICEF officials and discuss long-term tsunami relief strategy.

She also attended a session of the bi-annual meeting of UNICEF’s Executive Board at the United Nations, and met with the head of UNICEF’s HIV/AIDS team to discuss how she could lend her public profile to the battle against the pandemic.

Denmark is one of the world’s top donors to UNICEF on a per capita basis. Princess Alexandra, the ‘Children’s Princess’, has been patron of UNICEF Denmark since 2002. She has visited Thailand, Bangladesh and India to see firsthand UNICEF’s programmes in action.
