UNICEF participated in Egypt’s International Conference on Cybersecurity, which was held from May 16 to 18 under the auspices of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The conference brought together a group of regional, international, and Egyptian experts to discuss various topics related to internet safety.

The conference aimed at exchanging ideas between countries and governmental and private institutions and concerned partners, National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, Ministry of Justice, Public Prosecution Office, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, National Telecom Regulatory Authority, and the National Council for Women. The conference also aimed at discussing best practices for online protection, including protecting women and children online and providing a safe cyberspace for all.

Jeremy Hopkins, UNICEF Representative in Egypt said: “the digital environment offers myriad risks for children, but also opportunities for safe engagement and participation. This conference will contribute to enhancing child online protection and raising awareness about digital rights of children. UNICEF is working with the Government and development partners to prioritize advocating for protecting children in the cyberspace and creating safe opportunities for engagement and participation in the digital world.”
