BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan/GENEVA, 22 October 2023 – "UNICEF welcomes the repatriation of 83 Kyrgyzstani children and women from Syria. The repatriations – supported by UNICEF and actioned under the “AiKol” Mission – are an example of the Government of Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to upholding children’s rights set out in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“UNICEF works with countries including Kyrgyzstan to support the return, repatriation and reintegration of children in their countries of origin and citizenship.

“The commendable actions of Kyrgyzstan in repatriating these children are sadly an exception, not the norm. UNICEF continues its call on governments to facilitate the return, rehabilitation and reintegration of their children affected by conflict.”
