OneMinutesJr workshop in Tajikistan - Day 3

Pounding rain wakes us up on the third day of the OneMinutesJr workshop in Tajikistan. It was already cloudy last night and we were happy not to get all wet when we were out filming at the river, but today we are really unlucky.

Day 3 of the workshops is always the most important day for the filming, and rain doesn't help much when you want to spend eight or so hours on the road and mostly in the open. And that was not the only problem today. There is no water in the hotel in the morning. Nothing special in Tajikistan, but coming from Western Europe, it takes a while to get used to the conditions.

Ironically, Shabnam (16) opens today's filming with a story about the lack of running water: A boy wants to wash himself in the morning, but there is no water coming from the tap. So he takes his towel and a bar of soap and heads off to the nearby nature, where an ancient looking aqueduct has enough cracks in its cement walls that this might soon become a new Tajik sight for tourists - the Varzob waterfalls! (And before we forget - Sharof (16) gets the honorable mention for holding out under the waterfall. He said is was very, very cold...)

We film several different films today but also change the schedule a little bit and already start the editing process. The children bring their storyboards again and observe the process, make suggestions and a few do the editing all by themselves. There is definitely some talent around here, and the teenagers are also very open, talkative and fun to work with. Although "water for life" is quite a difficult topic for a young person to make a film about, we are more than optimistic that we will have a very nice final presentation on the day after tomorrow.
