The station launches on 20 November 2020 to coincide with World Children’s Day. This new station is the product of a partnership between Radio Okapi, UNOPS and UNICEF.
The aim of this partnership is to allow parents and their children to have access to basic services dealing with epidemics such as coronavirus, measles, cholera and malaria, as well as sanitation, protection, the right to education, nutrition, early childhood and civic education. It is also a station that aims to make learning fun.
OKAPI ENFANT is aimed at children and their parents in the DRC. It will broadcast programmes for Congolese children on themes including health, nutrition, water and sanitation, protection, protecting the environment and, of course, education.
OKAPI ENFANT will give the floor to technical staff from the government’s key ministries, in order to inform parents of the availability of children’s services across the country. OKAPI ENFANT will be broadcast through FM radio in 8 large cities of the DRC, in cooperation with local radio stations. Live streaming will also allow content to be broadcast via social media.
An educational radio
OKAPI ENFANT’s broadcasting schedule offers children and parents in the DRC practical advice on important issues related to childhood and adolescence. The broadcasting schedule will include programmes (reports, live speeches, guests including children and young people, experts, members of civil society and representatives of different ministries), news bulletins, music and a section dedicated to distance learning. The team will be made up of around twenty journalists, child reporters, technicians and a few administrative staff.
FM Frequency: Kinshasa 103.2
The majority of the content will be broadcast through FM radio in the following cities: Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Kananga, Kisangani, Bukavu, Goma, Matadi, Mbandaka. Live streaming will also allow for content to be broadcast via the internet. Key information and documents will be available online on various platforms.
