COVID-19 school closures in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) disrupted the education of 27 million children (12.9 million girls). To get children back in school and learning, the DRC’s education response plan – following the UNICEF, UNESCO and World Bank partnership ‘Mission Recovery Education 2021’ – focuses on stemming mass dropouts among vulnerable children in the Tanganyika province, with a focus on girls, through alternative learning programmes.
