Crisis in the Central African Republic: In a neglected emergency, children need aid, protection – and a future
About
UNICEF Child Alert is a briefing series that presents the core challenges for children in different crisis situations. This edition focuses on the situation of children and families in the Central African Republic (CAR), where 1.5 million children now require humanitarian assistance and more than 43,000 under five years of age are at risk of severe acute malnutrition. Five years after the country’s capital descended into conflict, the Child Alert notes, life in CAR is even harsher and more dangerous for children. Despite the escalating crisis, international attention and support are critically low and must be stepped up to meet the needs of the most vulnerable.
