Non-Formal Education

Objectives

• Increase access to a “preschool education” for 4-5 years old children
• A greater number of  6-11 year old out-of-school children receiving a complementary basic education through "alternative school" strategies

Strategies

• Advocacy and social mobilization
• Improve access to preschool education or to a quality community supervision, in the poorest areas, to properly prepare children for school transition
• Develop school alternative strategies and improve learning conditions in non-formal education structures to pave the way for formal education or offer children a "school of second chance"

Major Activities

• Preschool education is launched under the national program
• An inventory of experiences on preschool activities is established
• A Non-Formal Education policy framework is implemented
• A national curriculum, with clearly defined norms and standards,
was developed and is currently implemented
• Support to preschool teachers’ training
•  Non-formal education centers are equipped with a basic material
• Social mobilization to promote non-formal and preschool education
