UNICEF Corporate and Philanthropic Partnerships

Starwood Hotels & Resorts (Check out for Children)

Check Out for Children™

Check Out for Children, launched in 1995, is a partnership between UNICEF and Starwood Hotels and Resorts. The partnership supports UNICEF Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects in Africa and the Middle East.

Check Out for Children is one of UNICEF’s longest standing partnerships. Guests at Starwood Hotels are invited to add $1 (or the equivalent in local currency) to their bill upon checkout as a donation to UNICEF.

While Check Out for Children is the foundation of the partnership, Starwood Hotels and Resorts also support UNICEF through their Road to Awareness employee fundraising campaign and their Make a Green Choice sustainability initiative.

In 2015, UNICEF and Starwood Hotels and Resorts are celebrating 20 years of partnership and saying thank you to guests and employees who together have raised over $35 million to help UNICEF improve the lives of more than 4.5 million children in over 40 countries across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Between 2015 and 2017, all funds raised through the partnership will help UNICEF provide clean drinking water and proper sanitation facilities for children and families in Africa and the Middle East.

Road to Awareness

Launched in 2008, the Road to Awareness employee fundraising campaign has raised over $4.2 million thanks to the support and enthusiasm of Starwood employees. Every year between April and November, employees throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East organize fundraising events to help raise funds for UNICEF’s work for children.

Make a Green Choice

Launched in 2013, Make a Green Choice allows guests to take a more active role in preserving natural resources during their stay. Guests at selected Starwood Hotels and Resorts can choose to decline daily housekeeping services, helping to save both water and energy. In return, guests can select a reward, of which one choice is having Starwood make a donation on their behalf to UNICEF.
