Beko and UNICEF have come together in an innovative triangular partnership with the Barca Foundation, to raise awareness and prevent rising childhood obesity in hand with Football Club Barcelona players through the #EatLikeAPro initiative.

By 2025, there will be over 70 million children in the world suffering from obesity. UNICEF works to eliminate hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition on a global scale.

In May 2018, in only 11 days Beko raised 1 million euros for UNICEF during an online campaign to prevent and reduce childhood obesity in Latin America.

Data indicates that an estimated 7% of children under five and an estimated 23% of school-age children in Latin America are overweight or obese. This is an epidemic that is increasingly affecting the most vulnerable families and children and a major concern for UNICEF.

With Beko’s support, UNICEF is implementing a programme to improve food environments and diets and prevent overweight and obesity among primary school-age children in Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador and Mexico.

The programme will benefit at least 500,000 primary school-age boys and girls over a one-year period from 2018 to 2019 and will build the evidence base for the adoption and replication of improved policies, strategies, programmes and norms for the prevention of overweight and obesity in school-age children in Latin America.
