We’re building a new UNICEF.org.
As we swap out old for new, pages will be in transition. Thanks for your patience – please keep coming back to see the improvements.

Communities and families

Families and communities play a vital role in the survival, growth and development of children. A priority of UNICEF’s efforts worldwide is to help empower them to identify issues of concern, define viable solutions and multiply their capacity to act on their decisions.

Behaviour and social change communication is one of the most effective ways of improving health and social outcomes for women, children and their families. UNICEF applies a rights-based approach to its communication strategies, which encompass national advocacy, community mobilization and evidence-driven social and behaviour change actions.

UNICEF works with partners in many countries to design, carry out and evaluate a wide range of communication strategies to advance goals for immunization, child protection, early childhood, girls’ education and HIV/AIDS prevention and response.
