DUBROVNIK, Croatia, 16 September 2008 - The chamber music festival “Julian Rachlin and Friends” joined forces with UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Sir Roger Moore to support the Baby Friendly Hospitals Initiative (BFHI) backed by UNICEF in Croatia.

During a concert, in which Sir Roger Moore participated as narrator of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s letters, representatives of Julian Rachlin and Friends along with Sir Roger Moore presented their donation $7,500 dollars to UNICEF’s National Special Representative for Parents and Babies, Maja Vucic. This gift will be used towards the improvement of conditions in Croatian maternity wards and the promotion of breastfeeding under the framework of the Baby Friendly Hospitals Initiative implemented by UNICEF and its partners.

The Baby Friendly Hospitals Initiative was renewed in 2006 when all Croatian maternity wards joined the initiative. To date, nine maternity wards have been designated as baby-friendly, with others awaiting evaluations. Funds for the implementation of BFHI were raised entirely through private sector contributions within the country.
