BELGRADE, Serbia, 3 July 2008 – Tennis star and UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassador for Serbia Ana Ivanovic donated 3,360,000 Serbian Dinars (or 62,804 US dollars) to support UNICEF’s programme 'School without Violence'. These funds were collected during a fundraising game held in Belgrade in December 2007. With this donation, Ms. Ivanovic has helped 12 Serbian schools to join the programme.

'School without Violence', was initiated by UNICEF in 2005 with numerous partners in Serbia. Aiming a 'Safe and Enabling Environment for Children', the programme provides children, teachers and parents with a set of knowledge and skills to help them cope with violence and abuse. Skills such as negotiation and tolerance, as well as how to effectively avoid violent situations will aid the reduction of violent behaviors among children throughout Serbian schools.

Since it's creation, 'School without Violence' has gained more and more attentions from the general public due to the sad reality of an increasing cases of violence in Serbia's school. The programme is financed solely through donations – contributions by individuals and businesses. As more schools are waiting to join the programme, the needs are ever greater for UNICEF to generate more support.

With her first donation in September 2007, Ms. Ivanovic enabled 3 schools to join School without Violence'. With this new donation, 12 more are able to participate.
