President approves Main Agreement on Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and UNICEF as the basis for further talks
On 13 December, by his Decree, the President of the Republic of Belarus approved the Main Agreement on Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the United Nations Children’s Fund as the basis for further talks.
Natalya Petkevich, Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus, has been authorised to hold the talks and sign the agreement. The signing of the Main Agreement is aimed at creating the necessary legal conditions and guarantees for effective work of UNICEF in Belarus, with a view to implementing programmes and projects of this authoritative international body in protecting children’s rights and interests.
UNICEF projects in Belarus are geared toward fostering physical and psychological development of children and their learning skills, toward promoting breast feeding, HIV/AIDS prevention and protecting children’s rights and interests. Special attention is paid to protecting the rights of most sensitive groups of children like children with psycho-physical development peculiarities, children-orphans, children left without parental support and brought up in boarding schools, children conflicting with the law.
