MOSCOW, September 2 (Itar-Tass) -- President Vladimir Putin has sent greetings to delegates and guests of the international conference entitled "City Fit for Children."
The greetings were posted on the presidential website on Sunday.
"A forum of civil servants, businessmen and representatives of non-governmental organizations is a vivid confirmation to the serious attention our country is giving to families, mothers and children, and the younger generation," the greetings run.
"You are raising the exclusively important topic of the harmonious upbringing and education of children," the greetings run. "It is important to protect them from social ailments and criminal threats, create comfortable conditions for their living, studying, resting and physical training in the modern city. That will require not only the effective social infrastructure but also the solid legal support. Much depends on the active assistance of public organizations, volunteers and people who care about the future of our children."
Putin voiced hope that the conference will be positive and constructive, and its suggestions will be in demand.
Children are the most vulnerable stratum of the city society, UNESCO Deputy Director-General Marcio Barbosa told a Friday press conference at the Itar-Tass main office in comments on the upcoming international conference entitled "City Fit for Children" that is due in Moscow in early September.
The City Fit for Children program envisages joint work of UNICEF and municipal authorities for children under 18 - modern and accessible education, health care, sports and fitness facilities. Yet the main focus of the program is guaranteed children's rights in small towns and large megalopolises.
