President of Azerbaijan congratulates UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director on Fund’s anniversary
BAKU, December 15 2006 - President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev sent a message of congratulations to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Ann Veneman on the 60th anniversary of the Fund.
“During decades, the Fund has devotedly served its high goals, acting as the authoritative representative of all the children of the Globe”, the letter runs. “It has mobilized efforts of the governments and societies to protect rights of the children, set balance between political will and existent resources. The Fund’s activities in versatile spheres, in particular, in education and health, have played notable role in destiny of millions of children.”
The Fund has been one of the first international organizations to start functioning in the country. The people of Azerbaijan will not forget the assistance the Fund rendered to the refugee children driven from their homelands as a result of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The Fund’s Azerbaijan Representation has also done much in the country experiencing transition period,” the letter says.
The Head of Azerbaijan State expresses hope the Fund will further continue its activities to promote solution of children problems, do much to provide peaceful life of children over the world.
