About “The Magnificent Six” 2 – A Family for Every Child!

The Magnificent Six is the first charity show of its kind, through which in early 2008, bTV attracted broad public attention to the situation of abandoned children in Bulgaria. Owing to the bTV audience and to a number of corporate and private donors, the amount collected from January to May, 2008 reached BGN 1 869 788.74. The money was used to provide care in a family-like environment for all children from the Mogilino facility, which earned its dismal reputation after the release of the BBC documentary Bulgaria’s Abandoned Children.

The second season of The Magnificent Six started on 22 September on bTV. The show, which paved the way for a new type of charity in Bulgaria, have been broadcasted in bTV primetime for 3 months.

The mission of the show, which was again partnered by UNICEF, was to raise funds and start the first out of a series of closedowns of care institutions for infants aged 0-3, beginning with the one in Shumen. For this purpose, UNICEF will set up a network of services and measures in support of parents and families with young children, which will thereafter be transformed into a model for closing down infant care institutions and abandonment prevention. The slogan of the programme is: ‘A family for every child!’
