“Children: Please pay attention” - UNICEF and Moscow City Government joint campaign
MOSCOW, Russia - November 10, 2008
With the support of the Moscow City Government Department of Family and Youth Policy, UNICEF has been conducting the second round of the campaign “Children: Please pay attention”. The first round was held in Moscow in summer 2008. The goal of the campaign is to remind Muscovites about the existence and needs of young children in a big city. Adults, often fail to notice children, even though it often them who more than others need ongoing support and assistance.
The municipal authorities develop and implement all sorts of social programs, but the urban environment depends, to a large extent, on its residents. Offering your seat to a mother with a child on public transport, holding a door to let a woman with a stroller pass through, assisting a child to cross the roadway, letting mothers go to the front of a queue – all these simple actions do not require any extra effort, but help determine the extent to which children feel comfortable in a large city.
The campaign “Children: Please pay attention” is part of the UNICEF Global Initiative “Child-Friendly Cities” aimed at bringing together efforts of the city authorities, mass media, non-profit organizations, city residents and children to create the best possible environment for every child residing in this huge city.
The campaign is being carried out with the involvement of Amway, a UNICEF partner.
