OneMinutesJr workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Georgia - Day 2
TBILISI, 19 May 2013 - Day 2 of the video workshop on DRR in Georgia. The participants have already arranged some of the props they need for the filming and are busy setting up the scenes from the early morning.
However, we still need to talk to some of them and finalize the ideas. There is nothing worse than going to a location and realizing that you miss an actor or some important props.
Tornike's family lost their house several years ago after a landslide blocked the river Aragvi and caused a flood. In his OneMinutesJr film Tornike now wants to show through a little girl building sand houses on the beach that it's advisable to not live too close to the water but rather build houses on higher grounds.
Then it is Levan's turn and we move back to Vake Park in Tbilisi. A small paper house and a pile of rocks build the backdrop of the scene Levan and his friends have arranged. There are three little boys who will act in Levan's film, two start destroying the pile of rocks by picking the twigs symbolizing trees from it. The third boy reminds them that "chopping trees" will loosen the sediment and increase the danger of a landslide, but the two other boys just laugh about him. This turns out to be a grave mistake...

The South Caucasus sees quite a lot of seismic activity and therefore earthquakes are always an issue. A major quake near the Armenian city of Spitak killed nearly 25,000 people in 1988 and Spitak is only about 130 kilometers away from Tbilisi as the crow flies.
Iese (17) wants to remind people of this and chose the setting of the library in the Mediathek, the workshop venue, for his film. Two young children read books and play with a globe when an earthquake happens. They hide under the table just like they learned it in school, but they forget the globe on the table. The boy decides to reach up and "save the globe".
Altogether the participants managed to shoot seven films today so there is another nine to be done tomorrow before the editing starts and the footage is shaped into the final products.
