U-Report Cameroon
U-Report is UNICEF’s digital community for young people, by young people, where they can raise their voices and share opinions on topics that matter to them.
Presentation of U-Report
Using real-time insights and solutions, U-Report shapes policies and decisions in communities, and countries, working side-by-side with young people.
To date, 34 million young people have signed up as U-Reporters worldwide, using the platform – at the global and local level – to keep them informed and empowered as well as to support our work to protect and promote the rights of every child.
In a move to further align with and support our global efforts for children, U-Report has now merged with our Voices of Youth platform to become one safe digital space for youth and by youth, accompanied by a dynamic re-brand.
U-Report Cameroon was launched in early 2016 and made of 2 main pillars:
- an SMS exchange pillar (and more recently via WhatsApp, telegram, etc.) with outgoing SMS messages to involve young people in awareness-raising or mobilization operations (e.g. polio campaigns; COVID...); and to launch surveys to gather young people's opinions.
- a call centre pillar with a toll-free number for incoming calls from youth and young people seeking information and support, staffed by teleconsultants.
Today, some countries started engaging in U-Report communities that allow physical participation under the lead of a local U-Reporter, so that children and young people who have no phone or connectivity can be represented and listened to. This is an option that can be very efficient in very remote areas in IDP and refugee camps. Is the option we use now to enhance youth participation and involvement in their community. It’s the new U-Report by UNICEF.
U-Report community of Far North for example supports the country office through programs by encourage young people to get involved in the life of their community. Climate change is, for example, the main area of intervention for these young people here in the far north because it is the region which has the greatest impact on children, young people and the entire population. They therefore voluntarily commit to planting trees, cleaning up the city, raising awareness among the population about Essential Family Practices and supporting child protection activities in the spaces they create themselves in a healthy environment.

1. A technical platform for sending surveys to U-Reporters on their mobile phones via SMS;
2. A website where survey results, articles and other information are shared with U-Reporters, public authorities and the general public;
3. The social networks Facebook and Twitter, which also enable us to share information daily and reopen debates on issues under discussion;
4. links with services via the Green Line, which can refer callers to specialist services if necessary.
