In response to the COVID-19 emergency, a radio programme has been developed containing key messages and learning activities on health, hygiene, nutrition, child protection, play-based learning, education and holistic development of young children at home. With many thanks to support from UNICEFand the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), this programme provides integral messages and ways to care, support and protect children during and after the COVID19.

The programme episodes are in a theatrical story telling format, including dialogue between different key characters. The programme is engaging and fun, and it contains practical parenting advice relevant to day-to-day life in Cambodia, as well as learning activities (i.e. sing-along-songs and dance moves) for children.

The first episode which is titled “The four siblings” represents Child Rights, was aired on Children’s Day, 1st of June. The radio programme is broadcast on the National Radio Station (AM 918 KHz and FM 105.70 MHz) every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9:00am and the recordings can also be found on ECCD Cambodia Facebook and Youtube page.

The episodes will cover different topics, from positive parenting and family planning to healthy pregnancy and nutrition. Listeners will learn about the importance of play, common risks to children in Cambodia such as accidental drowning and methods to prevent and control anger. Parents will become increasingly aware of the father’s role in childcare, how to communicate with sons and daughters through daily routines and activities to help children transit from preschool to primary education.
