Multiple Indicator Assessment of the Urban Poor

Assessment of Phnom Penh’s urban poor to improve understanding of the challenges in food security, care practices, and nutritional outcomes faced by people living in poor settlements and explore interventions to best tackle them.

Unlike other studies of the urban poor in Phnom Penh, this assessment included a household survey, to shed more light on the problem of undernutrition in poor urban areas. Although water supply is generally good, lack of access to improved sanitation reflected an increased prevalence of diarrhea of children in the household. This is in line with current global research indicating a correlation between stunting and sanitation. The study was carried out by People in Need (PIN) and UNICEF.
