Highlights
UNICEF Bulgaria Factsheet on Ukraine Refugee Response for September 2023 outlines the latest updates on the situation of Ukrainian refugee children in Bulgaria and support provided by UNICEF.
Refugee children from Ukraine are facing the beginning of another uncertain academic year, with more than half of children from preschool to secondary school age not enrolled in national education systems in the major hosting countries. Language barriers, difficulty in accessing school, and overstretched education systems are among the reasons for low enrolment rates.
To reach affected children and families from Ukraine, UNICEF has scaled up its humanitarian support by providing supplies and services, building the capacity of frontline responders, and supporting national systems in close coordination with the government, UN agencies, donor community, and civil society organizations, including:
- 3,137,068 people reached through messaging on prevention and access to services
- 46,198 people with access to safe spaces, protection and support hubs
- 48,175 children receiving learning materials
More details on UNICEF Refugee Response are available in the September issue of the Factsheet.
