UNICEF representative Christina de Bruin met with Minister Demerdzhiev
They discussed cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and UNICEF
Deputy Prime Minister for Public Order and Security and Minister of the Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev met with UNICEF Representative for Bulgaria Christina de Bruin.
The two highly appreciated the cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and UNICEF and the Memorandum of Understanding signed several years ago. Minister Demerdzhiev and Christina de Bruin confirmed their readiness to continue the Memorandum for the period of the new UNICEF country programme for the period 2023-2027 and to prepare a new Action Plan for its implementation for the period 2023-2024.
The key themes discussed during the meeting were the prevention and response to domestic violence, support for children at risk, online protection as well as the migrant crisis and in particular support for refugee children including Unaccompanied and Separated Children.
"There are many causes on which we are natural partners and I highly appreciate our joint work so far and look forward to its continuation,"

"UNICEF highly values its multifaceted partnership with the Ministry of Interior and reaffirms its commitment to continue to support the Ministry and all its structures to strengthen the capacity of the child protection system and professionals working with children and families to provide timely, effective and integrated support,"
- shared Christina de Bruin.
They also discussed the crisis triggered by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria and Bulgaria's swift response in providing assistance and support to our Southern neighbour. Minister Demerdzhiev pointed out that our country was one of the first EU countries to raise the issue of providing support to Syria as well.
