How can you make a difference?
Support in developing, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating an advocacy and communication strategy to get children's and women's issues into the public domain with the objective of promoting awareness to strengthen general public, private sector and political will in support of UNICEF's mission in the country, and enhance the organization's credibility and brand. Ensure that the Representative and the country programme team are provided with professional expertise and advice on all aspects of external relations communication as required.
Key results expected:
Advocacy and communication strategy: Maintains and updates the country Advocacy and Communication Strategy and associated work plan. Strategy and work plan include: an environmental and stakeholder assessment; objectives; target audiences; messages and media mix; resources; specific actions, activities and products; monitoring and evaluation of impact; success and opportunity for improvement; ongoing refinement of the strategy. Works closely with UNICEF’s colleagues to ensure that policy advocacy and outreach is strongly grounded in the experience and insights of the programmes that UNICEF’s supports.
Networking: Support the identification and pursues opportunities for advocacy, engagement, policy influence and collaboration, including on how to anticipate and respond to the public and partners’ concerns and priorities. Also Contributes to the development and planning and implementation of initiatives for high-level outreach, including for UNICEF’s Senior Management.
Media relations: effective and timely professional support is provided in continually developing and maintaining media relations (print, TV, radio, blogs, social media, web, etc.), including writing, editing and producing high quality communication products in the country, to communicate the story of UNICEF's cooperation to a wider audience.
Celebrities, partners and special events: ensure that the Country Office has a well maintained and continually developed contact list of appropriate, nationally-known personalities who have been identified, engaged and support UNICEF's effort and who actively participate in special events and activities. The Country Office's contact list of influencers, groups, organizations (including Government, UN, and bilateral counterparts), is maintained and continually developed, whose engagement and support are essential to/can assist in achieving the advocacy and communication objectives and who support and are able to actively participate in special events and activities that further the country programme goals.
Fundraising and Partnerships: Support the implementation of the СО Fundraising strategy through relevant communication and advocacy activities and maintain partnerships with civil society and other organisations to promote child rights. Ensure that the Fundraising strategy is effectively supported by communication and advocacy activities as well as high brand visibility
- Develop and implement fundraising and advocacy campaigns in media.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant civil society and other organizations to promote child rights.
- Support Corporate Social Responsibility through relevant advocacy and communicational activities and materials.
Supervision: Manages human and financial resources of the section, so that both are effectively managed and optimally used. Ensure the success of the team, including guiding, training, and coaching short-term staff, including interns and consultants, as needed.
Reporting: Support the country office in ensuring quality reporting both internally and externally to enhance awareness on UNICEF work in Bulgaria and Globally.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Communications, Journalism, PR or a related field,
A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communications, print and broadcast media, and/or interactive digital media.
Fluency in English and of the local language is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
