Government institutions, development partners, researchers, programme implementers and young people came together to strengthen collaboration and accountability for improving sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV outcomes among adolescents and young people in Botswana.

Convened by UNICEF Botswana in collaboration with the National AIDS and Health Promotion Agency (NAHPA) and UNFPA Botswana, the engagement formed part of the Evidence to Action initiative under the 2gether4SRHR Programme, supported by UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between evidence and implementation by translating research, data and lessons from programmes into practical policy, advocacy and service delivery actions that respond to the realities faced by adolescents and young people.

The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to review emerging national evidence, share implementation experiences and identify opportunities to strengthen interventions that support young people's health, rights and wellbeing. Discussions focused on how evidence can guide more effective programming, improve coordination and ensure that services are accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of adolescents.

Participants included representatives from government ministries, civil society organizations, research institutions, development partners and youth-led networks. Their engagement highlighted the importance of placing young people at the centre of decisions that affect their lives and ensuring that their voices inform policies, programmes and accountability mechanisms.

The discussions also explored progress made against regional and global commitments on adolescent health and HIV, while identifying practical actions that can be integrated into existing programmes and partnership platforms. These included strengthening coordination between stakeholders, improving the use of data for decision-making and ensuring that young people have meaningful opportunities to participate in shaping health solutions.

Speaking during the engagement, partners emphasized that improving outcomes for adolescents and young people requires more than access to information and services - it requires strong systems, sustained partnerships and an environment where young people can exercise their rights and make informed decisions about their health and futures.

The Evidence to Action platform reinforced a shared commitment among stakeholders to move beyond discussions and accelerate practical solutions that deliver measurable impact for young people.

By connecting evidence, policy and action, Botswana is strengthening its efforts to ensure that adolescents and young people have the knowledge, support and opportunities they need to thrive.

For every child, every young person, every right.
