Botswana Government with support from UNICEF and British High Commission recently launched a National Child Friendly Justice Roadmap. Speaking at the launch, UNICEF Representative, Dr Joan Matji said the roadmap will go a long way in securing children’s rights in Botswana. She reminded the attendants of the plea made by Botswana children. “They asked that we do everything in our power to ensure that the justice system is child friendly, "she said.

For her part, the Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Justice Ms. Naledi Stella Moroka said the roadmap marks a turning point where the government of Botswana and her partners commit themselves to a transformative vision of justice—a vision that is inclusive, responsive, and rooted in the principles of fairness and equity. She committed to ensuring that the roadmap is implemented. “One great man once said, Justice denied anywhere, diminishes justice everywhere,” she said. The main purpose of the roadmap is to enhance access and improve the justice system to be more effective, efficient and child friendly with a specific focus on and safeguarding the rights of children.
