ROADMAP FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL PROTECTION SYSTEM

ROADMAP FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SHOCK RESPONSIVE SOCIAL PROTECTION SYSTEM IN THE FEDERATION OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA 2023-2027

Highlights

Over the past four years, institutions in the social protection system in the Federation of BiH (FBiH) have been actively involved in the implementation of the Joint Swiss UN Programme “Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for Sustainable Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina“, achieving substantial progress in building a shock responsive social protection system in BiH.

In coordination with partner UN agencies, UNICEF supported implementation of the Programme’s component to strengthen the capacity of the social protection system to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and create cross-sectoral linkages with other sectors and systems as part of an integrated DRR model in five municipalities and cities in FBiH (Bihać, Sanski Most, Kakanj, Kalesija, Gradačac), or a total of ten in BiH.

The experiences and lessons learned in the implementation of these measures in 5 municipalities and cities in FBiH have shaped the needs, solutions and the vision of further system improvements in this area, sublimated in this Roadmap.

The aim of the Roadmap is to disseminate good practices and experiences to other municipalities and cities in BiH as well as to provide strategic vision on the needed investments in systemic interventions to integrate chock-responsiveness into the social protection sector by working on the system’s legislative, strategic and budgetary frameworks.
