Sarajevo, 14 June 2023 - UNICEF and UNESCO are deeply saddened by the shooting at the Lukavac Primary School today. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to those injured in this attack, and those scared by this incident. School should be a place of hope, optimism and preparation for a better world. It is no place for violence of any kind.
UNICEF and UNESCO urge members of the public and the media to refrain from speculating about motives, posting or forwarding images and videos related to this violent incident, as this may further negatively impact children, and their families.
UNICEF and UNESCO stand ready to work with the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure that schools are places where children feel safe and supported. .
