Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Convention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
Relevant government authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina are making efforts to advance the rights of children in line with these Conventions. Still, there are some gaps that need to be addressed. Understanding these gaps fully is hampered by the absence of a coherent child rights data collection mechanism in the country.
Child rights coordination and monitoring mechanisms in Bosnia and Herzegovina exist and need to be further strengthened and their functioning across the country harmonized in order to fulfill more strongly the rights of all children in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including vulnerable children, such as children with disabilities, Roma children, children living in poverty, refugee and migrant children, children without parental care, children at risk of separation from their families and children in situations of emergency.
