Strengthening justice systems for children
A collaborative commitment to protection and equity
The Child Justice Committee of Belize has successfully concluded a pivotal three-day strategic retreat, held to reflect on the progress made between 2020 and 2025 and to chart a forward-looking vision for 2025 to 2030.
This high-level two-day retreat brought together key representatives from the High Court, Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, National Committee for Families and Children (NCFC), Family and Magistrate Courts, the Office of the Special Envoy, the Labour Department, Legal Aid, and the Belize Police Department. With support from UNICEF the retreat represents a shared commitment to strengthening Belize’s child justice system and ensuring that every child is afforded protection, dignity, and fair treatment under the law.
Through this multi-sectoral partnership, Belize continues to advance a child-centered justice system—one that is responsive, inclusive, and grounded in the principles of equity and human rights. Together, we reaffirm our dedication to building a future where justice serves the best interests of every child.
Over the two days, the Committee conducted a comprehensive review of the 2020–2025 action plan, capturing key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned across agencies. Each institution shared progress updates, data, and identified residual bottlenecks. These insights directly informed the development of a draft results framework and priority actions, which will shape the 2025–2030 action plan to be finalized by the end of this year—ensuring continuity and a more targeted, impact-driven approach moving forward.
